“I need the sea because it teaches me” — Pablo Neruda

Sensing Water is a 3-night, in-person retreat exploring the ocean as a spiritual, creative, and cultural force. Held on a remote island off the coast of Donegal, this immersive experience invites participants into a space between endings and beginnings—what Clarissa Pinkola Estés calls “the river beneath the river.

What if we tuned into the water moving through us—pouring, pooling, evaporating—feeling its flow within and around our bodies?

Guided by Easkey, you’ll engage in daily inquiries, embodied practices, reflection, grief work, and ocean-centered dialogue. Together, we’ll listen deeply to the sea, to our bodies, and to what is being called forth in this time of ecological and personal change.

Some of the themes we will explore

  • Embodiment & Interconnection – Experience a deeper, felt relationship with the ocean and one another through somatic, breath, and sensory practices.
  • Grief, Fear & Presence – Cultivate practices to be with difficult emotions like ecological grief or uncertainty, supported by the presence of water and community.
  • Creativity as activism – Reimagine activism as something rooted in beauty, creativity, and relationship rather than solely resistance.
  • Blue Mind & Ocean Wisdom – Experience the calming intelligence of the sea and attune to its language through mindful listening.
  • Honouring the Ebb – Practice slowing down and dissolving habitual boundaries to access new ways of sensing and understanding place.
  • Awe, Wonder & Collective Healing – may we come away with an expanded sense of belonging — to both human community and the wider living world.

What new ways of sensing and understanding the world might emerge when we become porous to water’s intelligence, agency and joy?

How might immersing ourselves in these watery systems unsettle what we know of land, home, and human?

This retreat is an offering to honour the ebb as well as the flow—a chance to slow down, to feel deeply, to let go, to move and create from the body of the world, and to be held by the living presence of the ocean.

May you come away with a deeper embodied relationship to water, an expanded sensory awareness, creative tools for expression and activism, and a strengthened capacity for ecological presence, grief work, and healing.

Where Do We Stay?

Inishcoo House is a beautifully restored 18th century coastguard station standing on an untamed 109 acre island (with 7 acres of private garden and beach access). Just a 5 minute boat ride from the main fishing village of Burtonport. The house has been refurbished as a comfortable eco-retreat but retains its unique character. Please note due to the uniqueness of this venue and limited capacity, most rooms are shared occupancy.

How Do We Get There?

Upon arrival in Burtonport, Inishcoo’s boatman Oscar will take you to Inishcoo (approx. 5 mins), dropping you off at the quay directly in front of the house. Cars cannot be taken over to Inishcoo. They can be parked safely alongside the quay in Burtonport.

Can we dissolve the boundaries of the familiar and listen with water’s own language?
