Easkey wins Animal British Cup

On 30 September, 2007 Easkey Britton took out the Animal British Cup in Newquay, winning the women’s event. Conditions were challenging on the Sunday with the swell having dropped overnight. In the smaller conditions wave selection becomes a priority and a surfer’s ability to make the most of the wave and generate as much power as possible.   Easkey earlier this year became the first women to ride Ireland’s famous big-wave break, ‘Aileens’ in Co.Clare at the Cliffs of Moher. However she proved she’s just as capable in the smaller surf balzing a trail through every round and into the final where she claimed her victory as the British Cup Champion.

The Animal British Cup is one of the biggest events on the British surfing calendar. The British Surfing Association sanctioned Animal British Cup included Open, Women’s, Juniors and Longboard divisions and is one of a series of events that will help choose the British Team for 2008. The £4000 in prize-money made it one of the biggest cash/product prize purses on the British Surf Scene which also attracted a recoed number of entries from all over the UK and abroad. Animal would also like to congratulate Easkey, who is their No.1 female team rider, on her victory. Although Easkey won the British Cup she will not be eligible for selection on the British Team as she surfs for the Irish Surf Team.
